Our History

The St. Michael School of Marilao was founded on June 1985. It originated from the St. Michael Kiddie School, the first Pre-School to rise in the Municipality of Marilao. With an initial enrollment of 105 pupils, it offered a complete course in Nursery and Kindergarten levels for children 4 to 6 years of age. Located at the center of the town, the School served the whole town of Marilao, including its neighboring towns such as Bocaue and Meycauayan.

After being recognized by the Government in 1986, the St. Michael Kiddie School became the St. Michael School of Marilao, and started to offer complete elementary course to school-age children year by year. Most of the enrollees came from the Marilao town proper, and most of them belong to upper middle class families who are mostly seeking education through private schools. Being the first of its kind in Marilao, the School served to the needs of not only the pre-school children, but most especially, of school-age children who were even brought to nearby towns for their formal schooling. Considering the economic situation then, the School was able to meet the exacting demands of parents to economize on expenses in providing for their children good quality education that they find in other schools. Patterned after the PROPED of the New Elementary Education Curriculum then, the School is geared towards the wholesome development of the child: intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially, morally and spirituality. It was 1992, after seven years of successful operation, that the Grade School was recognized by then-DECS as a complete elementary school.

On 06 June 1994, on the School’s tenth year, the High School Department was established. Located at Villa Consuelo Subdivision in Abangan Sur, and with a total area of 1,789 square meters, the School’s site is 150 meters away from the national road and could be reached by any form of vehicles. Situated in a first-class subdivision, the roads leading to the School are fully cemented and highly elevated. Complete water system and electricity are provided, added to by an extensive drainage system that would protect the School against any floods in the future. The High School Department was given full Government Recognition by the Department of Education in 1998.

Cooperation has steadily been a hallmark of the School. It is an active member of the Association of Private Schools of Marilao (APRISM), Bulacan Private Schools Association District II (BULPRISA), Bulacan Pre-Elementary Private Schools Association (BULPREPSA) and the Private Secondary School Administrators Association in Region III (PRISAA-III). The School’s annual, energetic participation in the BULPRISA District II Meet has earned for the School numerous distinctions and awards in the District, the Sectoral and the Provincial levels in the past years, and is still continuing.

On 05 June 2004, on the occasion of the School’s 20th year of continuous service to the youth of Marilao, the Pre-School and the Grade School Department was transferred and logistically integrated with the High School department. The achievement of unity was realized after finishing the 20th year of its lease contract with the owners of the former lot.

The School, at present, is composed of two big school buildings. The first building, the Grade School Building, constructed in 1994, a three-floors concrete building. The Administrative Office, Grade School and High School Conference Room, Property Storage Rooms and Grade School Classrooms are to be found on this Building. Separate rest rooms are provided for the grade school pupils in the building.

The second building, termed the Junior High School, was constructed in 1996, a year after the sudden death of its Founder and First President, Mr. Romeo c. Santos. It is a four-floors building, containing the Science Laboratories, School Cafeteria, TLE Laboratory & Practicum Rooms and classrooms on the first floor. The second floor houses the AVR, Speech Laboratory, School Library, High School and Grade School Computer Laboratory Rooms, Boy’s & Girl’s Clinic, and the spacious classrooms. The third floor occupies a number of classrooms for interaction and learning of the Junior high school students. Three classrooms of Grade Ten of the Junior High School, and the Guest House occupy the fourth floor of the building. Rest rooms are provided for the students at the floors of the building. As a whole, the School has standard facilities that conform to the Building Code Requirements of the DepEd for Private Schools.

On 20 May 2011, St. Michael School of Marilao has been granted a Certification Status by the Department of Education through the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) in the Education Service Contracting (ESC) Program of the government. A certified ESC participating school implies that it has complied with the standards and has conformed to the policies and regulations of the Department of Education. PEAC initially allocated 15 slots for our incoming freshmen students for SY 2011-2012. Each First Year ESC Grantees for that school year received the amount of Php5,500.00 for their subsidy. For S.Y. 2012-2013, the amount of grant for incoming First Year/Grade 7 ESC grantees became  Six Thousand Five Hundred Pesos (Php6,500.00) per student. Two years after, SY 2014-2015, the amount of subsidy for incoming grade 7 grantees became Seven Thousand Five Hundred Pesos (Php7,500.00) per student. The ESC grant cover the four (4) years of secondary education from Grade Seven to Junior High School graduation. For information: Fund for Assistance to Private Education (FAPE) is the trust fund created by Executive Order No. 156; PEAC is the trustee, designer and implementer of programs related to the fund, such as DepEd’s ESC Program; and the National Secretariat is the staff that support the PEAC.

In the tradition of academic excellence, St. Michael School of Marilao (SMSM) was awarded Certificate of Recognition as one of the High Performing Private Elementary and Secondary Schools of DepED Bulacan in the 2014 NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT TEST FOR GRADE 6 AND YEAR 4 as per Division Memorandum No. 170, s. 2014. Our dearest institution ranks 5 over-all out of 266 Private Elementary Schools and ranks 3 over-all out of 165 Private Secondary Schools in our Division. On January 18, 2016, pursuant to the provisions of Republic Act No. 9155 (Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001) and Republic Act No. 10533 (Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013), the department of Education issued Provisional Permit to operate the Senior High School Program; Academic Track: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), to St. Michael School of Marilao effective school year 2016-2017. In line with this, we have accepted and provided subsidies from the government (SHS Voucher Program) where in the Grade 10 completers from public schools receive Php17,500.00 and Php14,000.00 for the Grade 10 completers from private ESC schools.

On March 27, 2017, our dearest institution St. Michael School of Marilao PASSED the PEAC Recertification for the Education Service Contracting (ESC) Program. This means that the school continues to show its capacity to uphold the educational standards set by the Department of Education and able to address the needs of our grantees.

We are very proud that Commissioner Jaime H. Morente of Bureau of Immigration signed and approved last September 19, 2017 SMSM’s petition for authority to accept foreign students (AAFS No. JHM-17-K12-T299). This is in line with our objective to provide a globally accepted education for our pupils and students.

On the 30th of March, 2018, the first Graduation of Grade 12 STEM, Senior High School was held, with much bigger dreams and aspirations in each student’s heart. Together with these dreams was the ongoing construction of the three floors, six classrooms of the Senior High School building to accommodate more senior high school students to take up STEM and ABM tracks in the future.

The St. Michael School of Marilao is dynamic and growing. It is founded with the major and noble purpose of providing quality, relevant education that would prepare productive and responsible generations of citizens and Filipinos. The School aims to have pupils and students embodied with a strong love of one’s country and a personal discipline founded on Christian morals and spiritual values. The School also aims to pursue a more progressive service through a concentrated and focused effort and administration, all for the youth of Marilao and neighboring areas.
